Accountant - Regional Maritime University (RMU), Accra, Ghana

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and interested nationals of the Republics of Cameroon, The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone to fill the following position at the Regional Maritime University, Accra, Ghana:

ACCOUNTANT

JOB PURPOSE:

To provide support to the Director of Finance in finance and accounting related matters to ensure that proper management accounts are prepared for effective decision-making.

DUTIES

-Deputize for the Director of Finance with regard to managing staff and handling other accounting relating issues;
-Prepare management accounts for management decision-making;
-Monitor the maintenance of the general ledger function;
-Review on a regular basis the university’s tax position and advising management accordingly;
-Monitor and review sundry accounts which include prepayments, accruals and miscellaneous;
-Review account codes of expense items;
-Prepare draft annual budgets;
-Assist in controlling revenue and expenditure of the University;
-Prepare and submit daily, weekly, monthly and annual financial statements to provide relevant information for a better financial discipline;
-Prepare pay roll for payment;
-Recommend improvement of management control to safeguard University’s resources, promote growth and ensure compliance with prescribed rules and regulations;
-Perform any other duties assigned from time to time

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
Possession of first degree in Accounting and full professional qualification from a recognized Accounting body such as ICA (Ghana), ACCA and CIMA, with a minimum of 5 years post qualification working experience. Possession of an MBA will be an advantage.

Other QUALITIES OR REQUIREMENTS

-A very good knowledge of accounting and financial systems and procedures;
-Good knowledge of the use of computer and accounting software;
-High sense of responsibility, accuracy and judgment;
-A dependable character;
-Transparent and honest;
-Ability to work under pressure and for long hours;
-Must be fair and firm;
-Must have strong analytical and quantitative skills;
-Very good negotiation skills as well as good interpersonal and communication skills;
-Strong ability to handle crisis situations and take decisions quickly and correctly;
-Very high sense of responsibility and initiative;
-Strong ability to network;
-Must be member of a professional body;
-Must be honest and self -disciplined
